Hold Onto Me

Hold me, God,

Because I know I can let go.

I know the tune of my fickle heart, I know the melodies where it begins to wander and the crescendos where my focus drifts.

Hold onto me, God,

And never let me go,

Because I cannot be sustained alone,

Although my flesh’s lies seem enticing,

I cannot breathe unless you appoint the air to flow.

I hold onto you for dear life,

I cling to your garment,

Desperate for you to stay,

Although you’ve already shown me you are never going away.

I can’t breathe without you, God,

And I know apart from you I am nothing.

Hold onto me, God,

Hold me when I forget,

Hold me tightly when the plates under my feet begin to shift and I don’t know who to trust,

Hold onto me.

I am holding onto you for dear life, God,

Please don’t let go.
